I’m addicted to fishing, and I don’t think there’s any cure. And to be honest, I don’t want to be cured. My earliest memory of fishing was with my dad. I was probably four or five years old. I have a blurry image in my mind, like an old grainy film. I’m standing on the bank of the River Severn by the Royal Worcester Porcelain factory. I was lure fishing and spent more time waiting for my dad to patiently untangle the line from the bail arm and spool than I did fishing. This was probably happening every other cast or so, as I hadn’t had much practice at that point.

My dad taught me how to fish. We went to pools and canals where I learned to use a float and feeder. We also ventured to beautiful, picturesque parts of Wales, where I learned to cast a fly. In the years that followed, I transferred my skills to specimen hunting.
